Charles Rate

Executive Vice President, SNC-Lavalin & President, SNC-Lavalin Operations & Maintenance, Canada

Charles J. Rate is Executive Vice-President of SNC-Lavalin responsible for the company's Operations and Maintenance (O&M) division. With over 30 years of leadership roles at the executive level, he is also President of SNC-Lavalin O&M, and is responsible for leading one of Canada's largest Operations and Maintenance services providers. 

Mr. Rate's tenure has spanned from being Project Manager and Director of Engineering and Construction on major crown projects in the Defence and Telecommunications sectors. While working extensively on infrastructure development projects in Canada, Asia and Europe his experience is further complemented by a wide variety of design, construction, and operations and maintenance activities in mission critical environments and facilities. 

In 2007, Mr. Rate was named President and CEO of SNC-Lavalin O&M and promoted to Executive Vice-President, responsible for SNC-Lavalin O&M's conventional outsourcing and P3s in the real estate, power generation and transportation sectors including engineering design, corrective and preventive maintenance, project management, energy and environment management, and logistics services. At the same time, he was appointed to the Office of the President.

Mr. Rate has an honors' Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

Mr. Rate also sits on a number of boards and committees, including Habitat for Humanity Toronto Chair's Advisory Council, as well as the boards of PROTRANS BC and CANCAP.  He is committed to promoting SNC-Lavalin's culture of continuous improvement and collaboration, and in providing innovative solutions to clients, helping them to succeed in the delivery of their core business.
