Mark Way
Head of Sustainability Americas, Swiss Re North America, USA
Mark Way heads Swiss Re's sustainability activities in the
Americas and is part of the company's Sustainability &
Political Risk Management unit.
Mark has held this position since 2006, working from Swiss Re's
Americas headquarters in Armonk, NY. He is involved in various
advisory roles and leads the company's sustainability engagement
with key stakeholders in the region. These range from government
departments, insurers, corporations, leading NGOs and international
organizations to academia and internal units.
This engagement is focused primarily on the topic of climate
change, in which Mark leads a number of projects where the
interests of risk management, insurance and sustainable development
coincide. Mark joined the Swiss Re Group in 1994 and has worked in
various non-life marketing teams including those responsible for
regions such as United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Japan. In 2003 he
moved from his position as Client Manager for Greece, Cyprus and
Malta to the Group Sustainability Management unit. From 2003 to
2006 he represented Swiss Re on the
Climate Change Working Group of the United Nations Environmental
Programme Finance Initiative. He was made head of the company's
Sustainability Issue Management & Reporting unit in 2005.
A British citizen, Mark graduated from the University College
Wales having studied international politics in the United Kingdom
and the United States. In 2005, he completed an advanced course in
sustainable business practice at Cambridge University's Programme
for Industry in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Mark lives with his
family in Connecticut.
